Police are searching for the driver of a sport-utility vehicle involved in a crash that killed a 46-year-old Southwest Side man.

Lawrence Keeley, of the 5800 block of South Kenton Avenue, was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Chicago police spokesman Thomas Donegan said.

At about 2 p.m., Keeley’s car was hit on the driver’s side by a Chevrolet Suburban that rolled through a stop sign in the 1400 block of South Harding Avenue, police said. The driver of the Suburban and his three passengers, all males, allegedly fled on foot.

The crash was witnessed by the driver of a pickup that the Suburban had rear-ended a short time before, police said.

After that collision on Pulaski Road, the Suburban allegedly sped east on 15th Street, then north on Harding, with the pickup, a 2001 GMC Sierra, in pursuit. The driver of the Sierra was not injured, police said. Police are working to identify the Suburban’s owner from a temporary Illinois license plate on the vehicle, Donegan said.

Police described the driver as a man 18 to 20 years old, wearing a dark skull cap and a red coat.
