Former pro athletes, recovering addicts teach students that addiction = game over

The toughest opponent of former NBA guard Chris Herren's career wasn't someone he faced on the basketball court. He was living out his dream of playing for his hometown team, the Boston Celtics, but simultaneously, his drug addiction had him trapped in a nightmare.

Herren's addiction didn't start in the NBA. The standout high school basketball player recruited by top colleges in the country started drinking as a freshman as a way to escape the anxiety and pressure he faced in Fall River, Mass., or, as he referred to it in an ESPN documentary as, a place similar to the high-school-football town in "Friday Night Lights."
