SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Though it started raining yesterday, the rain has cleared up – at least temporarily – and offered the chance to spend some time relaxing early this Thursday morning. I had the chance late last night to go down to Old Scottsdale, which is the commercial center of town, and found it to be a quaint little area with plenty of shops and a bit of local flavor. Some of the storefronts had the picturesque “Wild West” motif, which was a novelty for someone such as myself who hasn’t been to the area before. I find the urban sprawl of the Phoenix metropolitan area surprising; it took nearly an hour to get from Scottsdale, on the east, to Glendale, on the west, yesterday afternoon, and Tempe, to the south, is also a bit of a drive. Apparently, before the recession hit, the area was the second-fastest growing in the United States behind Las Vegas, but they’re actually building homes here. Not so in Vegas, located four hours northwest.

Outside of the practices later this afternoon – and Oklahoma’s isn’t even open to reporters today – there hasn’t been much in terms of activity. We’ll see how things change later on tonight. For now, though, I’ve enjoyed the chance to walk around the property, take a few photos of the area and rest before kicking it back into gear the rest of the day.
