Patrick Kane's skills on the ice are recognized throughout the NHL. But he has some work to do when it comes to growing facial hair.
That said, he's doing his best, along with Blackhawks teammates Bryan Bickell, Brandon Bollig and Niklas Hjalmarsson, to support Movember. The annual, facial hair-focused event aims to raise awareness and money to fight prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.
"I just saw Kaner’s [mustache] now with all these lights on," teammate Patrick Sharp said at the Michigan Avenue magazine cover party at Carnivale this week. "I didn’t know he was even growing it. It took all these spotlights on to even recognize it.
"There’s some good mustaches [on the team]. I think Nick Leddy's got the best one."
How would Kane evaluate his efforts?
"I'm trying. ... I probably should have came to this event with a beard or something because [the mustache] looks pretty brutal," he said. "I might have to dye it or something to get some kind of respect."
And a certain defenseman's name came up again.
"Leddy's is good," Kane said. "He shaved but then it comes back in a day later so he's got to shave every day. I'd have to say Leddy, maybe Bollig. He's got the handlebars going on so it looks good."
