Oh Captain, my Captain. The Blackhawks leader is having the best week ever. Not only did he score three goals in the series against St. Louis, including an overtime game-winner Friday, but the team advanced to the second round.
Today, Toews celebrates his 26th birthday, the same day he was named as a finalist for the Messier Leadership Award. That honor goes "to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season." The NHL specifically mentioned his charitable efforts.
Late last week, he also was named as a finalist for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the NHL's best defensive forward, which he won last year. He's already won two Stanley Cups, two Olympic gold medals and the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP in 2010.
What's left? There's a lake in Manitoba and a community center where played as a kid named after him in Canada.
And he's already won a popsicle eating contest against Patrick Kane. Yep, popsicles.
Corey Crawford's not the only one to swear on camera. Toews dropped the F-bomb once when he played for Team Canada in the World Junior Championship.
That wasn't his only faux pas. Toews has given his fair share of hits, including one on a kid.
Seriously though, he hates the Captain Serious moniker. Even though his mom described him as serious, too--since he was a child.
Don't get us wrong. He knows how to have fun and does have a sense of humor. Why else would he dress up as the one half of the "Dumb & Dumber" duo on Halloween?
Or crowd-surf after winning the Stanley Cup?
He's also got moves on and off the ice. He battled Patrick Kane at the Blackhawks Convention last summer. It was a dance-off: the Taser moonwalk vs. the Kaner shuffle.
Did we mention he's fluent in French? Ooh la la.
Toews has starred in Chevy and Lemonhead commercials recently, but whatever happened to this one?
He may even follow the "Jersey Shore" mantra of gym, tan, laundry. At least he told Snooki once he did. And she squeezed his biceps.
And that's why fans love him.
