Chicago's weekend sports explosion

Forget Hollywood for a little while, Chicago. All the blockbuster action, drama and comedy (OK, probably not romance) you'll need will take place on a court, rink or field this weekend. At the top of the marquee are the Bulls, a scrappy young group trying to emerge out of the shadow of an old superstar to create their own legacy of greatness. Derrick Rose and company may eventually take on the supervillians of the league (Miami Heat), but first they'll have to defeat a gang of wily Hoosiers in the first round of the NBA playoffs, starting Saturday. Second billing is the unlikely Cinderella story of the Blackhawk--a bruised and battered former champion that squeaked into the NHL playoffs after a season more suspenseful than "Scream 4." Fans have been on the edge of their seats wondering if this team could overcome the loss of key personnel and a spate of injuries to regain their crown. At press time, the Hawks were in Vancouver, where they were down a game and set to play Friday night. They'll be back at the United Center on Sunday. Want A-listers with a Hollywood ZIP code? The Chicago Fire will host the L.A. Galaxy and ubercelebrity David Beckham and U.S. World Cup hero Landon Donovan at Toyota Park on Sunday. Their fellow Angelenos--the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim--also will be in Chicago, to take on the always entertaining White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Got all that? Now let's check out the starring cast for this weekend's big shows. Lights, camera, action! --Ryan Smith, For RedEye
