They might be fourth in their division right now, but they’re in first before the game even starts.
The Chicago Wolves’ pregame show has been named the Best Team Introduction in professional sports, beating out a number of teams in all areas of athletics. The title was bestowed upon the team by GameOps.com, an Ohio-based website that connects teams and event producers, allowing them to network and generate ideas to “enhance the entertainment value of their events,” according to the company’s website.
“We are honored to be named Best Team Introductions in professional sports by the industry experts at Gameops.com,” Mike Gordon, Wolves president of business operations, said in a statement. “Our organization takes great pride in our pregame show. It sets the tone for the entire evening.”
According to GameOps.com, the nominees’ introductions were judged based on their creativity, value to fans, execution, presentation quality, fan interaction and attention to detail. The Wolves’ introduction show, which is produced by senior vice president of operations Courtney Mahoney, includes fireworks, various pyrotechnics and lasers. The light show is paired with a pregame video that blends poetry (Rudyard Kipling’s “The Law of the Jungle”) and classic rock (Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart”).
The Wolves were selected as the winners by a panel of judges who cited their “dramatic pyrotechnics” and unique “storytelling fashion” as award-winning qualities. The Grand Rapids Griffins, a Michigan-based hockey team, and the Golden State Warriors both received honorable mention.
The Chicago Bulls’ Benny the Bull also received an award from GameOps.com for Best Mascot of 2013. Benny's blend of “athleticism, dancing and comedy, along with a very high level of production on-court” earned him this year’s honors, according to the company’s website.
