Chicago Fire MVP stars in 'Mike Magee's Day Off"

Even an MVP needs a break.

Chicago Fire star Mike Magee couldn't be expected to practice on a gorgeous summer day in the city, so he took a page from Ferris Bueller's book. In a video released Wednesday, Magee feigns food posioning to get out of practice, fooling coaches Frank Yallop and Clint Mathis, who also appear in the parody of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

There are more references than can be counted, including a "Save Magee" water tower, a keyboard that coughs and sneezes and even a nod to Ben Stein's famous "Bueller" roll call, with "30 Rock's" Judah Friedlander as a stand-in.

The video also boasts a host of soccer stars. U.S. men's national team defender Omar Gonzalez -- who just competed in the World Cup -- stars as Cameron Frye, USWNT member Sydney Leroux stands in as Sloane and Hope Solo serves as Ferris' sister Jeanie.

According to the Fire, the video was shot over four months in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Seattle. The video was produced in conjuction with MLS+ and YouTube channel KICKTV.

An extended cut has also been released, as have outtakes and deleted scenes.

Although we're sure the ESPYs overlooked this comic gold, that doesn't mean RedEye can't hand out some hardware.

Best hair: Omar Gonzalez

Magee's updo in his shower karaoke scene is a close second, but Gonzalez has a coif that would make even Jeff Samardzija jealous.

Best facial expressions: Thierry Henry

The former French national team star has a killer eyebrow raise. It's also a blast watching him in the outtakes as he tries to nail the Abe Froman/restaurant scene.

Best style decision: Omar Gonzalez's Wayne Gretzky jersey

In "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," Ferris' buddy Cameron wears a Red Wings jersey almost the entire movie. That wouldn't fly in Chicago, so Gretzky's Kings jersey definitely was the way to go.

Scariest performance: Hope Solo

The U.S. women's national team goalkeeper is the perfect choice of casting given she has been known to be a little, er, confrontational. "If you say Mike Magee, you lose a testicle," she threatens in one of the deleted scenes. *shudders*

Best wardrobe piece: Mike Magee's jacket/T-shirt/vest combo

Classic then, and somehow it still holds up 28 years later. When an Major League Soccer MVP wears it, anyway.

Best stunt: Sydney Leroux's kick

She nails Gonzalez in the back with a soccer ball from about 15 yards. It'd be even more impressive if it took only one take. Honorable mention goes to Magee's hilarious "leap" between two lawn chairs.

Best line: Clint Mathis

The Fire assistant coach made us chuckle—and grossed us out—with this winner: "Let's let 'em rest. The last thing we need is a teamwide case of the runs."

Best dance moves: Mike Magee

This award is a nod to the scene where Leroux pesters Gonzalez and in the real clips of Magee scoring goals for the Fire. Clearly he's been practicing.
