Now that Derrick Rose is back, the Bulls are destined to win the NBA championship ...
… is what Bulls fans would love to believe. And you can't blame them for their Rose-y outlook. The superstar's knee appears to be 100 percent and he says he's better than he was before his injury.
We'll have to wait until next spring to find out if the 2013-14 season plays out that way. On Monday, all the Bulls could do was try to knock off the defending champion Heat. In Miami. On the night they received their rings.
RedEye breaks down each quarter through Rose-colored glasses.
Rosey: Near the end of the quarter, Kirk Hinrich fouls LeBron James just hard enough to keep him from scoring. Don’t apologize, Kirk.
Rosier: Chris Bosh goes strong to the hoop … and Carlos Boozer stuffs him. Boozer plays defense?! This changes everything.
Rosiest: Rose glides in, double pumps and finishes with an acrobatic layup to put the Bulls on the board. We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: We missed you, D-Rose!
Score: Heat 17, Bulls 15
Rosey: The Heat made 58 percent of their 3-pointers in the first half. That can’t possibly continue, right?
Rosier: Rose goes down while playing defense on a Norris Cole crossover. He looked silly, but the knee’s OK!
Rosiest: Boozer finished the first half with 19 points. Good sign. And plenty of time for his teammates to wake up.
Score: Heat 54, Bulls 33
Rosey: Rose for 3! His first of the season. He worked on his shooting A LOT while he was out.
Rosier: Midway through the quarter, Rose fires ahead to Joakim Noah, who slams it home. The whole thing takes about .35 seconds. Blink and you missed it.
Rosiest: Jimmy Butler’s a starter now. Partly because he does things like steal the ball and coast in for easy buckets. Which he did three times in the quarter.
Score: Heat 78, Bulls 58
Rosey: Well, the Bulls are 0-1. So 81-1 is still a possibility.
Rosier: Boozer CRUSHED it for the Bulls, finishing with 31 points and seven rebounds.
Rosiest: Repeat after us: D-Rose is back. D-Rose is back. D-Rose is back …
Final score: Heat 107, Bulls 95
