First off, some very good news.
As of today, there are about 35 days until football preseason games get started.
35 days! That's a walk in the park! Heck, CEOs go on vacation for 35 days!
Together, you and I can do this.
Because the bad news is we're going to have to wade through the sludge of Chicago baseball to get there.
Time to sell! It's the Fourth of July Sale here in Chicago! Carlos Marmol, gone! (Thank you).
Both teams should be sending thank-yous to the Blackhawks. Now, no place to hide.
In watching the White Sox, there isn't one player I would keep. Not one. Maybe Chris Sale to build a rotation around. That's it. So do me a favor, don't go an a teaser run like you always do, you know, beating up the weaklings, making us think you can compete with Detroit. Everyone except Paulee Konerko can go.
Rick Hahn, sorry you have to do this your first year. But, that's life. Go Moneyball if you have to, but start now.
The Cubs are different because this has been going on for two years now, and there's no progress. I like Travis Wood, but everyone else is for sale.
Here's the heartbreaker: They want to use Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo as building blocks.
Yeah, that's great, but those players are only average to a little above average. They're not true difference makers. So you can run the numbers, sabermetric this, Batcomputer that, but you've still got limited talent. So, we look to international players. Great.
I've got more bad news for you: The NL Central now has three great teams: Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
Confession/question: Um, when did this happen? Weren't the Pirates the team we used to rip off to get good players? I want answers!
It's a long road to stay in fourth place.
On an upbeat note, it's NBA free agency time! The Bulls got … Mike Dunleavy. Junior. Anyone else? No? OK. Oh, we fired Ron Adams and there may be a rift between Tom Thibodeau and management, possibly damaging the team.
35 days, baby.
