Enjoy your parade, Chicago, because it's back to work after today.
I want you all to enjoy Lord Stanley Bowman's Cup as it's paraded around downtown today—yes, this has been awesome. There isn't much left to say about the Blackhawks.
I'll sum it up this way. They outskated the great skating teams, and they out-toughed the more physical teams like the Bruins. If a team does that, they're definitely tough enough and skilled enough. Great stars, great role players, great management, great coaches. And great goaltending too.
And I'll add this: fun. Just fun to watch. Not a typical grinding team, but great skill and great mobility with their defense. They have a late-’80s Edmonton Oilers look to them.
I'd like to go with a cliché here and say you know they're a blue-collar team and Chicago is such a blue-collar town, except it isn't true.
Chicago used to be a blue-collar town, but I'm afraid the only blue collars I've seen around here lately are the collars on all the Chase bankers.
JUST FYI: We still work hard. We just work hard at accounting, law, finance, trading, marketing, buying, selling, writing, shipping, receiving, dealing, schmoozing and closing. It's the new Chicago way.
So here's to all you white-collar guys out there, the 9-to-5ers. I see you, law dude, paying 10 dollars for a salad. You've earned it! This is for you.
How about you, finance geek. Oh, it was you who dropped a couple of hundo for Hawks tickets! Great job! You're still a friggin' nerd in my book, but thank you for adding things up! Well done!
See you at the parade, marketing guru. You have to be back for a 2 o'clock meeting though, to run stuff by your team. No decisions on your own now! Go Hawks!
By the way, where were all you people during the Alpo Suhonen years? I didn't recall seeing many Alexei Zhamnov or Eric Daze jerseys back then.
I'll let that rest. We have a dynasty in the making. Let's not blow it.
