Exhausted, but ready for more. I'm writing this from a bed, I won't lie. Once the refs took away Niklas Hjalmarsson's game winner, paramedics were summoned to my house.
But I was resuscitated, despite the sign I carry with me that says "do not resuscitate," and hey, it's the L.A. Kings on Saturday.
Sorry, Detroit, we will miss you as you head to the Eastern Conference finals. Quick note to Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard: Hey man, I know how awesome you were and how tough it must have been to carry your team. Way to go.
On second thought, cancel that right now. I still have too many raw memories of Ed Belfour standing on his head, unable to move the Hawks past the Red Wings in the mid-'90s.
I know it hurts, been there.
On to the L.A. Kings. OK, if there are two things that don't go together in my world, it's "California" and "hockey."
Here are some fun facts you may not know.
1) They are the current Stanley Cup champions (really? I zone out when the wimpy teams win).
2) They're coached by Darryl Sutter. This hurts for all you Blackhawks fans who remember when he took over for Mike Keenan. Class act. He spent his entire paying career as a Blackhawk.
Sorry, Darryl, we're through here because right now, all the Bag wants is an all-Original Six Stanley Cup finals, which means … Blackhawks-Bruins! Chicago, Boston. It's like having a Cubs-Red Sox World Series, but it would be on skates. Old-time hockey, as they say.
It was old-time baseball this week, as the Cubs-Sox series continues its fade into irrelevance.
Old-time in the sense that man, the Sox are old. I think they gave Paulee Konerko the day off after a night game … that was rained out! That must have been tough.
The only thing that stays the same: the team with the most to lose always does. Thank you, White Sox, for bowing down to the likes of Jeff Samardzija and giving up three homers to Dioner Navarro. Navarro will remember that someday when he's no longer in baseball.
Probably next year.
