The Bulls have been eliminated from the playoffs by their chief rival, Miami. Meanwhile, their United Center roommates, the Blackhawks, are in the midst of a postseason showdown with archrival Detroit.
Because they share an arena, the Bulls and Blackhawks are generally supportive of one another, and you'll often see the basketball players come out and support the hockey players and vice versa.
So RedEye asked the Bulls if playing in Chicago has raised their interest in hockey and if they'd ever ditch their sneakers for skates and go out on the ice and attempt a shot.
I go to Blackhawks games all the time. Patrick Sharp comes to Bulls games all the time and he comes to the locker room and talks to us. I love going to Hawks games, but I wouldn't go out there and take a shot. The way those fans boo people when they go and take shots during intermission, I don't think I could ever do that.
I'm not really a hockey fan. I'm more into golf, but no hockey. I can't sit there and watch guys swing at a puck. It's like soccer. You're just kicking the ball around and it takes forever sometimes to score one point. You play that for three hours and all you scored was one point? Nah, I can't do it.
I don't watch hockey, but I've always wanted to go to a game. I was never a big hockey guy, but somebody told me that a hockey game is better live than it is on TV—kinda like baseball.
I like hockey. It's interesting to see other people work at their profession and see how talented they are. I like [Jonathan] Toews, man. He's a helluva player; I have all his jerseys. I would never try and take a shot on the ice, [however], because I'd automatically feel like I wasn't athletic. It's like if you asked one of the Blackhawks to shoot a 3-pointer, I don't think they could do it.
I only watch hockey during the playoffs, when I can. But I like to watch it more in person because I don't know enough about hockey to watch it on TV. I'd never try and take a shot, though. I don't do well on ice.
I don't really watch hockey, but I want to get to a game because I always hear about how much fun they are and how much better it is to watch live than on TV, like baseball. I heard it's a lot of action, a lot of fun and I heard the Blackhawks do a lot of great things in the arena. And I'd never try and go out on the ice and take a hockey shot. My balance is bad enough on the court.
I don't watch the Blackhawks too much, but I heard they're doing really well. And I've actually taken a shot on the ice before. I didn't make it, though. But I'm not a hockey player. They couldn't make a 3-pointer. … But who am I kidding? I'm not making any 3-pointers either.
