Measuring the unmeasurable.
Or as Hawk Harrelson says, you can't measure a player's heart.
And, it pains me to say it, he's right.
As proof, your Chicago Bulls. I am 1) speechless and 2) Even after Wednesday's meltdown, I'm all in.
I'm ordering a Nate Robinson jersey! I'm ordering a Jimmy Butler jersey! With "Buckets" on the back. Jimmy, has Hollywood called yet?
And a quick note on Tom Thibodeau. The guy finishes eighth in Coach of the Year voting? Um, sorry. The guy is the best coach in the league. Period.
I think I know how the Bulls are doing it. It's called Irrational Confidence and I want some!
It allows you to do everything!
With Irrational Confidence you can 1) Ask that cute girl out on a date! 2) Go ahead and get that fashion T-shirt … you're that cool! 3) Yeah! Get that tattoo of a bird on your arm! 4) Mohawk! Go for it!
These things don't matter because you have what Nate Robinson has! Keep shooting! On the court, and in life.
Scary thought one: I'm not even sure I want Derrick Rose back. It wrecks the narrative.
Scary thought two: Luol Deng remains out, the victim of "a spinal tap gone bad." I don't want to know anymore. I'm getting sick.
So heart and soul can beat talent, and we have ourselves a series. Remember that, Phil Emery, because all I kept hearing last week was how great this player's time was or how strong they were. Sounds weak to me.
Of course, the real trick is to have talent and heart. That's what the Blackhawks have. And that's why they'll be waiting for San Jose or Detroit. Rest up, guys.
The Blues would be fine, too, if it ever comes to that. A St. Louis team we can beat! Lord knows it's not the Cardinals. Winners of everything since the start of baseball, they are everything the Cubs strive for—and miss badly.
That's not changing, regardless of renovations.
