5 reasons to give these Cubs a chance

I know what you're thinking: How did *I* get lucky enough to get to write a Cubs season preview? I mean, if the first few games of have taught us anything, it's that there's so much to look forward to!

OK, there's probably not that much to look forward to. The Cubs are going to play some pretty craptacular baseball. And we're in, like, YEAR THREE of craptacular baseball, so at this point, there isn't a ton I can say to comfort you. Lower your expectations for this article accordingly.

That said, here are five things about Cubs baseball you can enjoy this season. Seriously.

1) Anthony Rizzo: The poster boy for "The Cubs Way," Rizzo is a joy to watch on the field and at the plate. We only got a few months of him in 2012, so soak him in this season. Soak. Him. In.

2) Jeff Samardzija: Am I the only one who is still gobsmacked every time Samardizja doesn't suck? Enjoy it while it lasts. And for God's sake, enjoy the hair.

3) Javier Baez and Jorge Soler: You're going to have to follow minor league baseball to keep up with these two, but it'll be worth it to watch the future cornerstones of the world champion Chicago Cubs. This is what I'm choosing to believe. Don't' judge me.

4) The Wrigley renovation circus: Is there better theater in Chicago right now than the ongoing war of words among the love triangle of Tom Ricketts, Mayor Emanuel and Tom Tunney? And hey, at the end of all this, we might get a ballpark that doesn't try to kill us with plunging chunks of concrete. That's win-win.

5) New food: Going to Wrigley for good food is like going to North Korea for a good tan. This year, you'll be able to partake in chicken and waffle "stix" and North Side "taters." Enjoy!

Yes, this is another season in which the Cubs try to avoid losing 100 games, but that doesn't mean there aren't things to look forward to. And hey, they could surprise us.

Maybe.

Kinda.

OK, probably not.
