The Chicago Cubs said Tuesday that the City of Chicago and utility companies have begun work outside Wrigley Field in preparation for the stadium’s renovation.

Sheffield Avenue will be closed from Thursday to Sunday for excavation and an installation of a new water main. On game days next month, the parkway on the east side of the street and one lane of traffic will be closed starting at 8 a.m. until two hours prior to the start of the game. The same closure rules apply when Wrigley Field hosts a concert on Sept. 13.

The work will include the relocation of underground water, sewer and gas lines. The team said the utility companies don’t anticipate any major service disruptions.

The Cubs have said they plan to begin work on expanding the bleachers after the season ends.
