With a point guard from California and another starter from South Carolina, it's fitting that No. 1 Young still is very much alive for what is known as the "mythical" national championship.
Most of the nation's top teams play one another enough to give the national rankings real context, and the Dolphins deserve their lofty status (No. 2 MaxPreps, No. 3 USA Today, No. 7 and climbing ESPN) with consistently outstanding play in the national arena.
The out-of-state portion of Young's schedule will come to a close Saturday against Long Beach Poly (No. 4 MaxPreps, No. 6 ESPN, No. 9 USA Today).

The games that the majority of us care about are just getting started.
If the various sets of national rankings can crown multiple national champions, then I don't see why there can't be more than one "Game of the Year."
Unofficial is unofficial.
As such, the first mythical Game of the Year is Wednesday night at Chicago State, where No. 2 Morgan Park agreed to move its home game with No. 3 Simeon to Chicago State at 7 p.m.
It's the first of as many as five games between the top three teams in the Tribune Top 20.
On Jan. 26, Young and Simeon will play in the Game of the Year.
There can — and probably will — be two Games of the Year involving the three teams in the Public League playoffs.
After that, Young and Simeon figure to play for a sectional title in the Game of the Year.
The winner will be a huge favorite to capture the Class 4A title in Peoria the following week.
If Young still has just one blemish on its record, an overtime loss to Montverde (Fla.), it will be a worthy national champion.
The strength of Chicago basketball is no myth.
