Torres delivers the cheap shot, NHL gets a concussion

The NHL reportedly has decided not to suspend Vancouver idiot Raffi Torres for his gutless hit to the head of Brent Seabrook in Game 3 of the Blackhawks’ first-round playoff disaster against the Canucks.

Torres zeroed in on a defenseless Seabrook, then drilled him in the head with his elbow or shoulder, take your pick. Torres’ hit was the same act that earned him a four-game suspension when he targeted the head of Edmonton’s Jordan Eberle. See for yourself. In my book, they’re the same hit, the kind of hit for which the NHL has vigorously disciplined morons such as Torres. That makes it suspendible. But not four games this time. More like eight because Torres is a recidivist snot bubble.

But no. Nothing. A cheap shot to the head is now only a two-minute minor. Just when you thought the NHL had stepped up from acting like Mario Lemieux’s “garage league.’’ Just when you thought the buffoons and troglodytes had become extinct. Just when you thought the NHL was to be taken seriously.

Just when . . . nope, sorry, pffft.

Tell you what, the Hawks ought to respond to Torres’ cheap shot by running Roberto Luongo. Run him, then run him again. It doesn’t look as if that would be a penalty. Nobody knows what a penalty is these days.

What’s the NHL’s playoff slogan? Oh yeah: “Stupidity will be made.’’

This is worse, see, because it happened during the playoffs. Fewer teams, more at stake, a greater number of people watching, the better chance that damning video gets seen. Even for the NHL, this is stupid.
