Webb shot 12-for-14 from the free throw line, including making all six overtime free throws, to end Montini’s quest for a historic fourth straight Class 3A title. The Cougars (31-2) avenged last year’s championship game loss to the Broncos (34-2), and will play the winner of the second semifinal between Quincy Notre Dame and Morton at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Broncos shot 27.5 percent (14-for-51) and were outrebounded 50-23. Kelly Karlis scored 18 points to lead Montini.
"Our composure on the floor was the best of the entire season," said Vernon Hills center and DePaul recruit Meri Bennett-Swanson. "We were making great passes, crisp passes. We knew what the game plan was the whole game, even when they came back.”
