Tom Zbikowski is coming home.
The five-year NFL veteran from Arlington Heights has agreed to terms on a one year contract with the Bears.
The Colts cut Zbikowski last week after one season with them. The former Notre Dame standout previously had played four years for the Ravens.
With the Bears, he is expected to push Major Wright for playing time at strong safety and contribute on special teams. He also has return ability.
Known for his toughness and leadership ability, the former Irish captain has moonlighted as a boxer and has spoken of one day becoming a full-time fighter. As for now, he is focused on the NFL.
Asked about Zbikowski last week, Colts coach Chuck Pagano said, "There is gas left in the tank. I know Tommy's mindset. I know what a competitor he is. All he needs is an opportunity. I know somebody will give him one and he'll make the best of it."
Zbikowski was a quarterback and safety at Buffalo Grove High School.
