Adding more misery to an awful season for Houston, the Texans have released former Raven Ed Reed.

Ed Reed is a very, very smart man and he took the Texans to the bank.

Houston officials should have done more homework on Reed as far as injuries when they were negotiating a three-year, $15 million deal with him. Instead, they took a risk and signed damaged merchandise. Now they're reportedly releasing him.

I can't see the Ravens re-signing Reed. Just watching him play this year, you notice he isn't even close to the form that made him one of the best safeties to ever play the game. Also, his outspokeness and brash personality are things the Ravens tried to get away from during the offseason.

I'd like to see Reed retire before he gets seriously hurt. He is a good person and he has a lot to offer others outside of football. He has some outstanding qualities and he could be a great mentor for young children.

I wish him nothing but the best. He left behind some great memories in Baltimore.
