Voter registration across the state is up slightly from the March primary, but down more than 5 percent from the 1988 November presidential election, the State Board of Elections said Monday.

Overall, more than 6.03 million people are registered to vote in next week`s general election, an increase of 15,862, or less than 1 percent, from the 6.014 million registered to vote in the March 20 primary, board officials said.

But the total also is down 326,117, or 5.1 percent, from the November 1988 presidential voter registration of 6.357 million, the board said.
