Portland’s not exactly a winter wonderland, but “Winter in Portlandia” (9:30 p.m. CT Dec. 14, IFC; 3 stars) is a wonder as Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s quirky characters spread some joy for the holidays.

As you can see in the video sneak peek, my favorite “Portlandia” duo–Candace and Toni–school Candace’s son, Robert (Bobby Moynihan), on gender-blind parenting at the Women & Women First bookstore–which is a great excuse to repeat the phrase “vagina pillows” several times.

Another ongoing skit throughout the episode becomes a cautionary tale about the dangers of giving up pasta cold turkey when Peter decides to do just that, leaving Nance struggling with what’s become of him.

Also, artisan curators Bryce and Lisa offer a winter vacation at their newly opened Outlet Hotel and the purveyors of the food cart Stu’s Stews (guest stars Jim Gaffigan and Matt Lucas) try to keep it in business in cold weather.

Armisen and Brownstein deliver a perfect little holiday present for viewers–and a great tease for the new season that begins Jan. 4.
