Auston Matthews may have scored four goals in his first NHL game, but he’s got another thing coming if he thinks he can best Jonathan Toews on his best day.
The Blackhawks captain and the Toronto rookie engaged in a friendly game of “Call Your Shot” in a recently posted YouTube video by Bauer, a hockey equipment company.
The premise for the video is the two players have been left on a rink with a bunch of pucks at their disposal and no supervision. Naturally, they challenge each other to smash water bottles, food, cameras and anything else in their considerable range.
If we had to declare a winner, it would be Toews. His accuracy in smacking one particular light on a tripod is mighty impressive, and he went the extra mile by sliding into it to seal the deal when it wouldn’t break because of the pucks’ impact. The ultimate finisher, that Toews.
To be fair, Toews might have had a leg up because of the bottle-trick video he made a little over a year ago, a feat you can watch below.
Besides putting the players’ uncanny skills on display, the finale of the showdown features Toews and Matthews laying waste to a craft service table. Which in turn gave birth to a potential new Toews nickname: “Veggie Man.”
