Many of the Disney movies you know and think you love have extremely disturbing details in the original versions.

Key Facts

Many Disney films were based on fairy tales written in the 1800s by the likes of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen.

In the original “Snow White,” the step-mother is forced to put on hot-iron shoes at Snow White’s wedding and dance until she dies.

In the original “Rapunzel,” the prince is forced to jump from the tower and gets his eyes gauged out by thorns upon landing.

“Cinderella,” for example, includes the step-sisters sawing off parts of their feet in order to fit into the glass slipper. They are found out by pigeons, who point out the blood pouring out of the shoe.
