For the uninitiated, TBOX, or Twelve Bars of X-Mas, now in it’s 20th year, claims to be the largest bar crawl of its kind, in the world. Starting at 8 a.m. more than 20,000 ugly sweater-wearing, naughty Santas flock to Wrigleyville, plaster themselves in branded stickers with slogans like “Why don’t we just make out now and get it over with?” and drink like baby Jesus himself commanded it.
Thanks to the sugar rush that follows the TBOX tradition of pouring an entire box of Trix in your mouth, it’s easy to ignore the block-long lines and focus on the kitschy costume paradise.
This year, like every other year, bars blared Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You;” sing-alongs were sung; strangers became friends and danced in cereal-stomped streets. Hooray.
