Welcome to RedEye’s “Song of the Day,” an ongoing feature where music reporter Josh Terry or another RedEye staff member highlights something they’re listening to. Some days the track will be new, and some days it will be old. No matter what, each offering is something you should check out. Check back every weekday for a new song and subscribe to the Spotify playlist below.

Homme is the art-rock duo comprising RedEye favorites Sima Cunningham and Marrow’s Macie Stewart, and the pair is releasing a self-titled debut EP on Friday, Nov. 13. To celebrate the project’s release, Homme has streamed the whole thing a few days early with Consequence of Sound. While you can stream the whole project below, we’re going to focus on highlight “Fingerprints” because this is a Song of the Day.

Speaking to CoS, the band notes that, “At its core, Homme is about experimentation and exploration. This project was born out of a desire to write and create with instruments that we were not as familiar with.” Throughout the six tracks on “Homme,” you can totally hear that freewheeling, curious and fun spirit. Opener “Woman” is bluesy and soulful with a lush, woozy guitar line and perfectly harmonized vocals. Where cuts like “Bully Clouds” and “Ithaca” are dreamy and hypnotic, a track like “Furniture” bursts through with surprisingly explosive arrangements. It’s a perfectly balanced but still adventurous project.

”Fingerprints,” however, is my clear early favorite of the bunch. It’s an airtight single, complete with the personality-filled vocal flourishes we’ve come to expect from singers as talented as Stewart and Cunningham (check the “ah-ah-ahs” peppered throughout). It also boasts one hell of a chugging guitar riff to maintain forward movement. Listen to “Fingerprints” below.

Hey! Remember when I mentioned Sima Cunningham’s Hideout Residency a few days ago? Well Cunningham will be hosting a Homme record release show Nov. 17 at the Hideout. Come see these songs live and click here for tickets.
