Meet RedEye Rock ‘n’ Vote 2015 finalist Stereospeak.
Neighborhoods: Lincoln Park, Lakeview
Experience: Singer Mike Mitzner, 27, and drummer Logan Ortega, 26, met at the University of Alabama and started the band in 2009.
Sound: “It’s flattering because a lot of people compare us to Radiohead. Our sound is indie rock that comes from a pop-minded side as well as a heavier side,” says Mitzner.
Live show: “We’re now a six piece because we just added a saxophone player, which adds amazing things to our performances. We like to make our sets in like a storybook fashion, taking [the crowd] through a little bit of a journey with highs and lows. We’ll jam out at the end of our sets with improv, guitar solos and even bass solos.”
Influences: Interpol, Radiohead, Bonobo and Tame Impala.
Fun facts: Stereospeak’s current bassist Tim Gauntner was already a fan before he joined. When he realized the group was looking for a new bass player, he reached out and has been with the band for about six months.
