The big “Star Wars” weekend got started Friday night with Dave Filoni’s announcement that the final episodes of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will be released in 2014.

Following the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney, its new owners canceled “Clone Wars” following its Season 5 finale, despite Lucasfilm having already begun work on a sixth season but weren’t abel to complete the episodes until now.

Filoni, supervising director of “The Clone Wars,” posted a message on his Facebook page Friday telling fans they will get to see a final season.

“Star Wars fans–I have some exciting news! We have wrapped production on all of the remaining Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes, and while that might be sad news in one way, it’s good news in another. It means you will finally get to see them. When, exactly, is a detail I cannot yet share. I can confirm that in early 2014 you will be watching the final episodes of The Clone Wars, including one of Master Yoda’s most challenging missions. So, get ready. We’ve got Clone Wars and Rebels coming at you in 2014. Animated Star Wars is alive and well. Trust in the Force my friends.”

Although he did not say how many episode have been made, some outlets are reporting the season will be comprised of 22 episodes. Filoni has said there are “several episodes of ‘Clone Wars’ the fans have yet to see.”

“I’ve finalized the remaining episodes and I think they will really please the diehard ‘Clone Wars’ fans, especially the story arc with Master Yoda–that one is critical to the bigger picture,” told the L.A. Times’ Hero Complex.

It’s also unclear where the new “Clone Wars” will air–Disney XD, iTunes or another platform. That announcement may be forthcoming this weekend during New York Comic-Con, Announcements are planned for the upcoming new animated series “Star Wars Rebels.” Maybe another “Clone Wars” announcement is in the offing, too.
