Congratulations, East Lakeview residents. You’re about to have a hard(er) time saying no to doughnuts. Stan’s Donuts & Coffee, the California-based shop that has found its way into Chicagoans’ hearts, is opening at 2800 N. Clark St. on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Besides slinging fresh dough and taunting us with shiny, pastel-hued KitchenAid mixers, Stan’s is doing something extra special for this opening. They’re giving away free doughnuts for life. I repeat: free doughnuts for LIFE.

Here’s how it works: The first 100 people to arrive at the shop on Saturday (they open at 6:30 a.m., FYI) will receive a “mystery gift envelope.” That sounds pretty special, right? It is. One of those envelopes contains the rights to free doughnuts for life. Basically, all the Biscoff-filled pockets your little heart desires until you die. Sorry to get all morbid on you.

If you’re one of the other 99 customers who woke up early to line up outside the shop, you won’t go home disappointed. Additional prizes include T-shirts, coffee mugs, coffee, doughnuts, gelato shakes and cones. But really, everything else is kind of lame compared to free doughnuts for life. Get there early; we imagine “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”-level chaos.
