The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About An Hour
7 p.m. June 16
America has elected its first black president, and in response, some say racism has redoubled–no, re-quadrupled–its efforts. While the economy fails, racism is thriving. And meanwhile black people wonder if they elected a black president or a president who is black. And the country is bankrupt. We’re still fighting wars in places where we have no business… or plan… or even a business plan. Lucky for us, W. Kamau Bell is here to make (non)sense of all of it all. The W. Kamau Bell Curve is a comedic exploration of the current state of America’s racism, combined with a little (unknown) history, a little presentation, and a whole bunch of Kamau. And because racism is always attacking in new ways and from new angles, Kamau attacks back by constantly adding new material. The Curve is a seamless mix of stand-up comedy, video and audio clips, personal stories and solo theatrical performance.

Tom Dreesen: Should Comedians Pay to Perform

5 p.m. June 15

Come and hear what Tom Dreesen has to say about this trend that is sweeping the country. Tom Dreesen is featured in the book I’m Dying Up Here written by William Knoedlseder. The book chronicles the famous strike against the Comedy Store in Los Angeles in 1979 that led to comics being paid across the country and as far away as London. Prior to the strike they were paid NOTHING. Dreesen organized a band of then-unknown stand-ups like David Letterman, Jay Leno, Gallagher, Elayne Boosler and many others and, after 8 weeks, won a victory that changed the course of comedy throughout the nation. You won’t want to miss this historical story and the discussion with the audience that follows.

He brings his 40 years of stand-up expertise to his seminar The Joy Of Stand-Up Comedy And How To Get There. Tom answers questions, but, even more importantly, helps comics recognize their gift and never give up their dream. This fast-paced and informative hour is beneficial to anyone in any endeavor and costs nothing because Tom believes in the healing power of laughter and especially the men and women who bring it to the stage.

His new superhero title, The Sodomizer, launches at the British International Comic Show, and nothing will stop Tony from making it a success. Nothing except a gang of Geordie criminals who are using a comic company to launder their dirty money. Tony is drafted by the police to identify the culprits and bring them to justice. The Bitter Buddha

8 p.m June 15

Comedian/Actor Patton Oswalt, Comedian/Actor Eddie Pepitone, and Director/Producer Steven Feinartzwill present the film and do a Q&A afterward. Dir. Steven Feinartz (USA, 88 min.)

The film takes an unconventional journey with a true “comic’s comic”. Eddie Pepitone, a startling voice in the alt-comedy scene, has been battling on-stage for over 30 years. Now in his fifties, he is attempting to take his comedy to the next level. Throughout the film, we follow Eddie as he struggles to break through his cult status while dealing with self-doubt, sobriety and a challenging past. Original animation, stand-;up material and hilarious interviews with Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Marc Maron and others help us gain insight into this fascinating character. Above all, The Bitter Buddha is an unhinged portrait of creativity, enlightenment and rage

Since last I posted about Just For Laughs, these shows also were added:

He will appear on the upcoming Comedy Central series Kroll Show and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show, as well as the Adult Swim series The Eric Andre Show. Buress has earned both the honor of performing Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival and the well-earned respect of his peers, who regard him as one of the brightest young talents to emerge from Chicago. His stories about his experiences with pickle juice, the merits of Courier New font, and his not-so-secret desire to kick pigeons have led to appearances on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Late Show With David Letterman. Several major publications have taken note of his ascent, including Variety magazine, which named him one the 10 Comics to Watch in 2010. His debut CD, My Name Is Hannibal, was recorded at The Lakeshore Theater and was the #1 comedy album on iTunes upon its release.
