Former Chicago resident John Lehr has another season to tame the Wild West in Hulu’s original series “Quick Draw.” The online service Monday announced it has renewed the comedy for a 10-episode second season.
“Quick Draw” premiered this summer, becoming one of Hulu’s top performers and consistently remaining in the Top 10 most-watched shows on the site each week.
Lehr, who created the show with his “10 Items or Less” and “Jailbait” writing partner Nancy Hower, is a Northwestern grad who trained at Second City in Chicago and lived on Wrightwood and Racine. Read my interview with him here.
In “Quick Draw” he plays Harvard-educated Sheriff John Henry Hoyle, who uses forensics to try to solve crimes in a small Kansas town in 1875. The townspeople remain a bit skeptical of his new style of policing, and his abilities in general.
Familiar characters such as Deputy Eli (Nick Brown), saloon owner Honey Shaw (Allison Dunbar), outlaw Pearl Starr (Alexia Dox) and undertaker Vernon Shaw (Robert Clendenin) will be back for Season 2, Hulu said in a release.
Hopefully they’ll continue the behind-the-scenes bits, blooper reels and “Qucik Draw Mixology” videos, too.
“The second season of ”Quick Draw’ will continue to crack up current fans and win new ones,” said Charlotte Koh, head of development, Hulu Originals. “We’re really excited to see more of John Lehr and Nancy Hower’s comedic re-imagining of life in the Wild West in 1875.”
Hower and Lehr will executive produce the second season of “Quick Draw,” and Keith Raskin (“Key & Peele,” “The League”) will co-executive produce.The show is slated to premiere on Hulu and Hulu Plus in 2014.
Season 2 of “Quick Draw” will be part of Hulu’s 2014 slate of originals that includes a second season of “The Awesomes” from Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker and the new show “Deadbeat,” a co-production with Lionsgate that stars Cat Deeley, Tyler Labine, Brandon T. Jackson and Lucy DeVito.
