Fox’s freshman drama “Pitch” gives us Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), a 23-year-old who becomes the first woman to pitch in majors when she starts for the San Diego Padres.

To see how close the show comes to reality, RedEye takes highlights and categorizes them as: Nailed it, Close enough or Total whiff.

The Cardinals get in a beanball war with another team.

Close enough

It would be much, much more believable if the other team involved was the Cubs in 2015. Yet the Cardinals do ruffle feathers by touting their “Cardinal way” and then acting less than civilized. Just ask Joe Maddon.

The manager gets ejected before the game even starts.

Nailed it

As ridiculous as this sounds, this actually happened to Cincinnati manager Bryan Price in a game against Cleveland in May 2015. And the catalyst for the ejection on the show—an argument over the srike zone—is pretty much how it happened in real life.

The aforementioned ejected manager orders unopened champagne removed from the clubhouse because it’s bad luck.

Nailed it

Yeah, you can’t have that. Again, just ask Joe Maddon.

Ginny’s agent goes down to the dugout to try to get her pulled from the game so she doesn’t get hit by a pitch.

Total whiff

Nope. They would have tackled that agent’s you-know-what well before she got near the field. Not cool.

And then Ginny charges the mound because she wasn’t hit, igniting a brawl.

Total whiff

Baseball fights have been started for more idiotic reasons, but we can’t let this slide.
