The official trailer for Starz’ “Outlander” gives newcomers to Diana Gabaldon’s book series a clear idea about the story: WW II combat nurse Claire Randall gets swept back to 1743 Scotland where she meets Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser.

“People disappear all the time,” Claire says in the trailer, titled “Disappearance.” “Most are found, eventually.”

Uh-oh. Sounds like Claire may never make it back to 1945 and her husband, Frank Randall.

The 16-episode “Outlander” series, adapted by Ronald D. Moore of “Battlestar Galactica” fame, will premiere this summer on Starz. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire and Sam Heughan as Jamie.

“Do not be scared as long as I’m with you,” Jamie says in the trailer. Obviously, Claire falls for Jamie. I’m thinking viewers will, too.

But who does Claire fear? The duo will run into British baddie Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, who is an ancestor of her 1945 hubby Frank Randall. Tobias Menzies, who played Edmure Tully in “Game of Thrones,” stars as both Randall men.

Other cast members include Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan, a Scotswoman and friend of Claire’s, James Fleet as Rev. Wakefield, Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, Gary Lewis as his brother, Colum MacKenzie, Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Annette Badland as Mrs. Fitzgibbons, Laura Donnelly as Jenny Fraser, Stephen Walters as Angus Mhor, and Nell Hudson as Laoghaire MacKenzie.
