Thanks for your interest in RedEye. Here are the opportunities we have available. Because of the high volume of inquiries we receive about job/freelance/internship opportunities, we can only respond to finalists.

Neighborhood reporters

RedEye seeks freelance reporters to cover hyperlocal news in Chicago's neighborhoods. The ideal candidates will have reporting experience and have a knack for identifying neighborhood trends. They'll be able to pitch timely and talkable stories about neighborhoods. Plus, they'll be able to write and report about those trends in a way that appeals to RedEye's audience of super social, passionate people in their 20s and 30s.

Think you have what it takes? If interested, send resume, clips of/links to three published stories and three pitches for neighborhood story ideas to jcantarelli@tribune.com.

Internships

Our paid internship program seeks college students or recent graduates who want to contribute to RedEye's unique mission to inform, entertain and engage diverse Chicagoans in their 20s and 30s and have some fun while we're at it. Internships are available in web reporting.

As this is a practical internship, experience at a school newspaper or a previous newspaper or magazine internship is preferred and some journalism training in a class or otherwise is required. RedEye interns are expected to have flexible skills, including basic knowledge of AP style and news writing. Online and social media experience is preferred.

The majority of RedEye interns work a 24-hour week, but we will work with students who have minor class and work conflicts.

The internship lasts about 12 weeks. A cover letter, resume, 3-4 clips and the names of at least three references should be sent to the following contacts.

RedEye online and reporting: Dana Kavan, deputy digital editor (redeyeinterns@gmail.com)

We prefer to receive applications electronically, but you may also send them using RedEye's mailing address:435 N. Michigan Ave., 4th Floor, Chicago IL 60611

Deadlines (materials should be received by):
