So, Ed Weeks isn’t fat like Dr. Jeremy Reed, his character on “The Mindy Project.”

The formerly fit doctor has been stress eating this season, the result of his running the practice at Shulman’s Women’s Health Associates when Dr. Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) took off for Haiti with her former beau.

“The gut actually is a onesie. It’s a onesie fat suit,” he told me during an Oct. 2 stop at RedEye. “It’s very padded; it’s very hot—not in a sexy way but in a warm way. And I’ve got a padded ass, which is pretty interesting, for the first time.”

Although he’s developed a taste for Goldfish (the crackers) and Cheez-Its, Weeks doesn’t shove sweets down his yapper quite like his character does. He declined to take me on in a stress-eating race involving 50 Munchkins from Dunkin’ Donuts.

He’s got to stay fit and handsome (my words, not his) because later in the season, Weeks said, Jeremy will shed those extra pounds.

“He goes away to fat camp and comes back, according to the stage directions, skinny and handsome—their words, not mine,” he said. “But now of course his problem is trying to keep on the wagon. Now he’s addicted to food.”

In the video above, Weeks teases a Christmas party episode in which Jeremy is constantly tempted by treats, talks more about the fat suit and how Jeremy keeps getting dumped on at work.

And yes, he does taste a doughnut hole. Watch more from this interview here.
