CTA riders can take any CTA bus or train for free again this New Year’s Eve.

The free rides last from 10 p.m. Dec. 31 to 4 a.m. Jan. 1. The CTA has long offered a penny fare program on New Year’s Eve; MillerCoors took over sponsorship of the program in 2012 in a three-year, $1.3 million deal that promotes the Miller Lite brand.

As part of the agreement, MillerCoors pays the one-cent “penny” fare for each rider and CTA operating costs during promotion hours.

About 150,000 bus and train rides are taken on New Year’s Eve, according to the CTA.

“We’re pleased to be able to continue the tradition of providing CTA customers a free, convenient transportation alternative to driving on New Year’s Eve, and we thank MillerCoors for agreeing to extend its sponsorship of this important program,” CTA President Forest Claypool said in a news release.
