Rockford, Ill. rock band Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts has announced its upcoming third album “Heavy Metal,” which is slated for release April 29. Listen to the title track below, which is exclusively streaming at RedEye.

Nielsen (yes, his dad is Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen) has been a fixture of the Illinois roots rock and Americana scene for some time now, with his last release being 2012’s “…Presents the Rusted Hearts.” This new effort finds the rock’n’roll journeyman sticking to his guns. He explains, “In a day and age where people focus on singles and following musical trends, I couldn’t be more pleased to be releasing the album which is ‘Heavy Metal.’ Thankfully, for our third release, it’s an album made up of 10 singles, all cohesively woven into a sonic musical tapestry.”

I’ve heard the full effort, and he’s not wrong. Each track stands on its own as a single, but few are as grabbing as the opening title track. It’s romping in the vein of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Harry Nilsson, combining classic American sounds with some rock radio-friendly hooks. Listen below, check the full tracklist and preorder the album here.
