Meet RedEye Rock ‘n’ Vote 2015 finalist Marrow.

Neighborhoods: Logan Square, Roscoe Village

Experience: Three of the quartet’s members–singer-guitarist Liam Cunningham, 21, singer Macie Stewart, 22, and bassist Lane Beckstrom, 23–were in popular local band Kids These Days while they were in high school. Cunningham and Beckstrom have been playing music together since the two were 12. Drummer Matt Carroll, 25, played a one-off gig with Cunningham in high school, which shows how much history this young band has together.

Sound: Cunningham says that whenever he’s asked this question, he avoids the adjective-heavy descriptions to settle for the straightforward answer, “I play in a rock band.”

Live Show: Like Cunningham’s answer above, Marrow’s live set-up is equally straightforward. A four-piece rock show that proves these musicians gel perfectly with one another. “We’ve all spent time performing classical music and jazz music too.”

Influences: Cunningham is currently listening to a lot of Courtney Barnett and T. Rex.

Upcoming performance: May 22 at Logan Square Auditorium.

Fun Fact: Beckstrom was featured in an HBO program when he was just three years old. The reason, “He was like a child prodigy movie director,” Cunningham explains. “His dad works in videography. Lane was making animation videos and it ended up on TV.”

Big accomplishment: “We finished our record. It took over a year, but we did it,” says Cunningham. “The Gold Standard,” which was mainly recorded in Cunningham’s home studio, should arrive this year.
