Meet RedEye Rock ‘n’ Vote 2015 finalist Krystal Metcalfe.
Neighborhood: East Lakeview
Experience: “It sounds cliché, but I’ve been playing music my whole life,” says the 28-year-old singer. “I come from a very musically-minded family.”
Sound:“I always say my music is soul meets musical theatre.”
Live show: “I have five people backing me, so it’s a full experience. Our shows kind of feel like a ‘revival.'”
Influences: “I listen to a lot of musical theatre and soul. It might sound surprising, but I also love a lot of indie bands like Lucius and Grizzly Bear. My vocal influences are Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin.”
Upcoming performance: May 19 at the Promontory
Fun facts: She sings in public. She also dreams of being Elphaba in “Wicked.”
Big accomplishment: No shameless plug: Metcalfe said she’s proud of RedEye choosing her as one of “15 Chicago Artists To Watch in 2015.”
