Have you been missing Robb Stark since his Red Wedding? Richard Madden won’t be back on “Game of Thrones,” but you only have a few more months to wait before the Scottish actor, bearded and in a different pelt, headlines the Discovery miniseries “Klondike.”
Discovery on Friday released the official trailer for its first scripted miniseries in which Madden stars as ambitious adventurer Bill Haskell. Based on Charlotte Gray’s book “Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike,” the mini follows Haskell and his best friend, Byron Epstein, as they leave New York City for the dangerous frontier town Dawson City in the Yukon Territory–the center of the late 1890s Gold Rush.
In their search for wealth, Haskell and Epstein face horrible weather and deadly country, not to mention greedy gold diggers, opportunistic businessmen, thieves and native tribes desperate to stop the destruction of their land and lifestyles.
“The seocnd we staked our claim we were marked men,” Haskell says in the trailer.
Augustus Prew, who starred as Prince Alfonso in “The Borgias,” plays Epstein. Other cast members include Abbie Cornish as Belinda Mulrooney, owner of Dawson City’s best hotel, restaurant and sawmill; Tim Roth as The Count, who tries to muscle in on Belinda’s territory; Sam Shepard as Father Judge, a preacher hoping to save souls; Johnny Simmons as writer Jack London; Tim Blake Nelson as gold miner Joe Meeker; Ian Hart as shady businessman Soapy Smith, and Conor Leslie as the courtesan Sabine.
“Klondike” goes hand-in-hand with Discovery’s reality series, “Gold Rush,” which follows modern-day fortune seekers. “Klondike” premieres in January 2014 on Discovery.
