The second phase of the Wells Street bridge overhaul begins Friday night, which will reroute some trains heading into the Loop through early May 6.
Next week, rush hour Brown Line riders will see some southbound trains operate until the Merchandise Mart while other trains will become Red Line trains after Fullerton. There will be no Purple Line Express service.
Weekend service is a bit trickier, which may affect those traveling to the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, C2E2, at McCormick Place this weekend. Going Public breaks down CTA transportation options.
>> Brown Line trains will only run between the Kimball and Chicago stations. Riders can pick up a free CTA shuttle bus, which will operate between the Chicago Brown Line, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, Clinton Green and Pink Line and Washington/Wells stations. C2E2 runs a free shuttle service from the Clark/Lake station.
>> Orange Line riders and those traveling from Midway Airport will only see partial Loop service. Trains from Midway into the Loop will only run as far as Washington/Wells. C2E2 fans can get off at the Roosevelt station and take the free C2E2 shuttle. Orange Line riders can pick up a train to Midway at the Washington/Wells, Quincy, LaSalle/Van Buren or Harold Washington Library stops in the Loop. Service operates normally after Roosevelt.
>> Pink and Green Line riders traveling from the West Side can take the train as far as the Clinton stop, and then pick up a shuttle to Clark/Lake for the C2E2 shuttle.
>> Green Line riders from the South Side can travel to the Roosevelt station to pick up the C2E2 shuttle. Green Line trains into the Loop will only run as far as Adams/Wabash.
>> Blue and Red Line service is operating as scheduled. Blue Line riders can get off at the Clark/Lake station and take the C2E2 shuttle. Red Line riders can ride to Roosevelt for the C2E2 shuttle, or pick up the No. 21 Cermak bus at the Cermak-Chinatown stop.
>> Bus service will be running as scheduled. The No. 3 King Drive and No. 21 Cermak buses drop off right in front of McCormick Place.
The No. 3 bus makes pickups at the Millennium and Van Buren Metra stations, while the No. 21 bus connects to the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line and the 54/Cermak Pink Line stations.
