Syfy has released this first-look trailer for “Helix,” its upcoming sci-fi thriller from “Battlestar Galactica” creator Ron Moore.

“Helix” tells the story of a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control investigating a possible disease outbreak at a research facility in the Arctic.

From the looks of things in the trailer, that outbreak involves some kind of alien being overtaking humans, or a virus that changes them into killers of some sort.

According to Syfy, the scientests are “pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation…or total annihilation.”

Billy Campbell heads an otherwise fairly unknown cast as Dr. Alan Farragut. “Helix” also stars Kyra Zagorsky as Dr. Julia Walker, Jordan Hayes as Dr. Sarah Jordan, Hiroyuki Sanada as Dr. Hiroshi Hatake, Catherine Lemieux as Dr. Doreen Boyle, Neil Napier as Dr. Peter Farragut, Mark Ghanime as Major Sergio Balleseros and Meegwun Fairbrother as Daniel Aerov.

“Helix” premieres at 9 p.m. CT Jan. 10 on Syfy.

Moore serves as exec producer with Lynda Obst (“Contact”) and Steven Maeda (“Lost,” “CSI: Miami,” “The X-Files”).
