NFL free agent Colton Underwood went out on a limb during the 2016 Rio Olympics: He asked Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman out on a date via video (without ever having met her).
Well, his ass-backwards dating tactics worked. Raisman confirmed to People that she and Underwood are officially a couple and have secretly been dating since the VMAs in August. (God bless social media.)
“We happened to both be in Denver at the same time,” Raisman told People. “I was there for less than 12 hours, he was flying in for just a few days. it just ended up working perfectly.”
As a refresher: In mid-August, while appearing on Yahoo Sports’ video channel, Underwood surprised Raisman with a video congratulating her on her success at the Olympics and asking her out on a double date with fellow Oakland Raiders player Andrew East and gymnast Shawn Johnson (who are married). Raisman didn’t hesitate agreeing to the rendezvous. And, well, the rest is history. (Underwood since has been released from the Raiders and is a free agent.)
The pair attended the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year ceremony together on Monday, proving it’s not opposites but ATHLETES that attract.
