Jada Pinkett Smith is breaking bad. The “HawthoRNe” actress has been cast as gangster boss Fish Mooney in the upcoming Fox drama “Gotham.”

“A sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, Fish Mooney’s got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book,” a Warner Bros. Television press release says. “Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed.”

Based upon characters published by DC Comics, the one-hour drama charts the origins of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous.

Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon. Earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced that Donal Logue will play Detective Harvey Bullock, Gordon’s partner and mentor. “The rough-around-the-edges Detective Harvey Bullock plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results,” a release said, “and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.”

Other casting includes Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin.

Bruno Heller, the man behind CBS’ “The Mentalist” and HBO’s “Rome,” wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon, who has worked on CW’s “Nikita” and CBS’ “CSI” series, will direct and executive produce the pilot.
