This is a sentence I’ve always wanted to write: “I have something in common with Elton John.” Dreams do come true because that something is a deep love of Chicago band and former RedEye cover stars Whitney.

In an interview posted today by the New York Times, writer Nathan Reese facilitated a phone conversation between John and Whitney drummer Julien Ehrlich. It’s a conversation that touches on family, new music in 2016 and the joys of playing albums live in concert. The whole piece is worth reading in full, but I will say that Elton John called “Light Upon The Lake,” Whitney’s debut album, one of his favorites of the year. The record is No. 1 on our mid-year list, too—that’s another thing we have in common with Sir Elton John! Click the link here to read the entire interview.

By the way, this also isn’t the first time John has expressed his love for this Chicago seven-piece band. In July, he played “No Woman” on his Beats1 Radio Show, “Elton John’s Rocket Hour.”
