The CTA on Thursday unveiled its plans for the ailing Wilson station, the three time winner of Going Public’s annual Crust Station contest that dishonors the most disgusting CTA stop.
Wilson will be transformed into a transfer station for Purple Line trains. The station, which was built in 1923, will also see new glass and steel canopies, a glass-enclosed entrance along Wilson Avenue and a new entrance for Sunnyside Avenue.
The station’s terra cotta exterior will also be restored, the CTA said.
Construction on the $203 million project is anticipated to begin before mid-2013 and continue through 2015. The project is being paid for with state and federal funds and tax-increment financing, money intended to promote redevelopment in certain areas in the city.
A meeting about the project will be held 6-8 p.m. Oct. 11, at Harry S. Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson Ave.
