The CTA board is poised to approve an agreement Wednesday with the University of Chicago that would allow the CTA to continue to operate four campus bus routes for five years.

The buses that would continue to run are the Nos. 170-U. of Chicago/Midway, 171 U. of Chicago/Hyde Park, 172 U. of Chicago/Kenwood, and 192 U. of Chicago Hospitals Express. The buses are primarily used by University of Chicago students.

There will be no changes to the routes, CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said. The contract is through Aug. 31, 2018.

“We’re very encouraged by the agreement with CTA,” University of Chicago spokesman Steve Kloehn said.

The CTA had been negotiating with the University of Chicago since last fall, when it announced it was seeking more money for its nine contract routes.

The agency reached agreements with other groups for seven routes, including UPS, but couldn’t reach an agreement with Metra, and the No. 33-Mag Mile Express was cut in March.

The CTA said it is still negotiating with the Museum of Science and Industry for the No. 10-Museum of Science and Industry route.

The four University of Chicago routes saw a combined 1.2 million rides in 2012. The CTA board meets Wednesday for its monthly meeting.
