The holidays were cut short for some CTA riders Monday night.

The CTA Holiday Train, a train adorned with lights and holiday decorations, was pulled from service Monday night after the train experienced door problems on the South Side, CTA spokesman Brian Steele said. The train should be ready for Tuesday’s schedule on the Yellow Line, the last Holiday Train trip of the year, Steele said.

At about 5:15 Monday night, the Holiday Train was heading north on the Red Line when the operator noticed one of the doors was not closing properly, Steele said. Riders were unloaded at the 63rd Street Red Line stop so the CTA could make repairs to the train.

The train, an annual tradition for more than two decades, has been visiting a different CTA route nearly every day since Thanksgiving. Monday was the last day on the Red Line, the CTA’s most-travelled line.

As it made its way to the rail yard, the train whizzed past riders without stopping to pick them up. Some riders who had been waiting for the train expressed frustration on Twitter that they did not get to ride:
