The CTA board today awarded construction contracts to upgrade the Wilson and 95th Red Line stops.
For the Wilson stop in Uptown, the board approved a $153.6 million contract to Walsh/II In One Joint Venture of Illinois. Construction is expected to begin in the fall to transform the Wilson station into a transfer stop for the Purple Line Express and make the stop accessible for riders with disabilities.
Construction on the $203 million project should take three years to complete, CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase said. The agency is finalizing a construction schedule that may include some station closures.

For the 95th Street stop, the board approved a $23.1 million contract to Walsh/II In One Joint Venture for foundation and retaining wall work. Construction on the stop, which will include replacing the stationhouse with two station buildings, is slated to begin in the fall.
The terminal south of 95th Street will be built before the terminal north of 95th Street, Chase said, adding that the station will remain open during the $240 million project. Station work is expected to be completed by early 2017.
The CTA says the 95th Street overhaul is necessary so the agency can eventually extend the Red Line south to 130th Street. The CTA closed the Red Line south of Roosevelt Road for five months last year to replace track and upgrade stations.
